Rauw Alejandro

In 2017, Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it was the top-streamed track in just 6 months. The song is a blend of reggaeton, pop and rock did not just bring attention to reggaeton but it also attracted attention towards Latin music in general. In 2015 there were only two predominantly Spanish-speaking songs in Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the peak of Despacito's popularity, however 19 mostly Spanish tracks made the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 songs. Justin Bieber's bilingual remix Despacito was released in 2017. Then, numerous popular artists started collaborating with reggaeton performers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny for MIA (2018) in addition to Madonna worked with Maluma in the creation of Medellin. Some reggaeton artists have criticized the shift to mainstream music in 2020. A new band, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the growth and evolution of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music and different styles was an accepted method.
